The AAU- Amateur Athletic Union WAS the dominating governing body for all athletics. About 1975 – Steve Prefontaine organized an international track meet in Eugene, Oregon.
It was about this time that the Oregon Coaches started to boycott and disrespect AAU decisions. The USWF -United States Wrestling Federation became the dominating wrestling governing body in about 1978.
The USWF was sold / transferred to be associated with professional wrestling. Then about 1989 USA wrestling evolved. This organization has become the dominant force sponsoring wrestling in the united states.
