Freestyle National bronze medalist. Defeated World Champion grappler & Black Belt Judo instructor. Lost controversial match, to New Zealand coach. He broke my fingers. He was oiled with ” Tea Tree Oil “. I broke his ribs. An hour later -we exhibited sportsmanship.

Champion and gold medalist in Folk Style, Freestyle and Greco- Roman.
I trained for two months before these challenges. For the first time in 30 years, I could touch my toes. I attended physical therapy, had a weight training trainer and a jiu jitsu / Tapout trainer.
You can see the two silver and one bronze medals mixed in the picture above. I was also placed in the heavy weight division. I injured my back again. I forfeited my last two matches.
The only goal I have is maybe next year. If I can get in shape, I will enter the AAU Masters World Folk style tournament. Always held in North Dakota in conjunction with the Black Hills tournament . Then the USA / Asics Veterans Division National Folk style tournament in Iowa. My abilities in the international styles of Freestyle and Greco- Roman, are over. I cannot throw anymore. The basics of Greco- Roman involve excessive cervical abuse. I cannot sustain any abuse to my neck.
I refuse to play the victim. While on active duty in the Army, I sustained several serious injuries. The two injuries to my spine cracked a vertebrae and allowed a disk to slide. My knee was stepped on, after 20 years suffering, my other knee required surgery. This surgery began as a routine clean up of both meniscus. The surgeon decided to remove my plica. This is a gel under your knee cap. It took nearly two years until I could walk without a brace.
I receive Veterans Affairs disability for loss of quality of life. It is too risky for me to workout, train and compete. Numerous trips to the hospital. I earned this payment for disability.
This time in my life was the most exciting in 20 years. For five years, I was a lost individual. Humbly I admit, that I was one of those homeless veterans/ Risks that you read about. I was in pain, I was given medicine and then arrested for driving on the medicine. The training, competing and interaction brought me back to the days when I was younger and full of drive and ambition. Sport, it has a unique, excellent place in our society. Yes, I lost to the World Champion – BUT – I believe that MAYBE , I can possibly train to beat him in Free Style. He does not enter the USA folk style tournament. Is it evident that sport is creating drive and desire is occurring again in me ? These components required in Sales, I admit that I had lost.
It is nearing a cause for total retirement from wrestling.
Wrestling has refocused my life. Sport has revitalized my inner spirit.
Since I entered back into wrestling one year ago, I have accomplished or will accomplish within a few months.
